Electrification of the Carabanchel Operations Centre The renovation of the Carabanchel Operations Centre aims to further the transformation of public passenger transport into zero emission vehicles. This will lead to an increase in energy efficiency and charging processes for electric buses, improving air quality and reducing noise, as well as encouraging a modal shift towards more sustainable modes of transport. This renovation consists of the implementation of the necessary infrastructures to offer citizens more sustainable and attractive transport alternatives, demonstrating EMT's commitment to decarbonisation and contributing to a modal shift for public transport. The electrification of the Carabanchel Operations Centre is a project that consists of four phases (three of which haver already completed) and includes the acquisition of pantographs charging points and charging cables for recharging electric buses -with the corresponding adaptation of the infrastructure for these pantographs and chargers-; in addition, it includes the necessary conversion of the buses to pantograph charging, the construction of the charging bridge structure so that the buses can be charged by pantograph and the installation of a powerful photovoltaic plant that will guarantee the self-sufficiency of the operations centre and a more agile management of the EMT bus fleet. Intelligent electric charging points using an inverted pantograph allow the shortest possible charging times, without affecting battery life and optimising the costs associated with the entire operation. They also enable charging to take place without any operator present or any waiting time for the driver, and the system is designed to optimise the charging of each vehicle in the shortest possible time. The NextGenerationEU-funded part of this project will amount to a maximum of €23,338,801.36 and this investment will serve to transform urban mobility into a low-emission, multimodal, digitised, efficient and diversified model in terms of energy sources. Development of a smart charging system at the Fuencarral Operations Centre The Fuencarral Operations Centre is developing and implement an intelligent charging system to automate the charging of the buses located there, and also assemble and install it on the buses. This project will receive up to €4,605,300.00 of NextGenerationEU funds, channelled through the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan. Adaptation of the Sanchinarro and Entrevías operations centres to accommodate electric and hydrogen-powered buses The refurbishment of the Sanchinarro and Entrevías operations centres is intended to consolidate the transformation of EMT's operations centres. The ultimate goal of this consolidation is to decarbonise the public passenger transport sector by improving bus recharging efficiency, thereby reducing the environmental and health impacts of the sector's activity. The measure consists of equipping both operations centres with charging infrastructure that will ensure the optimal operation of the zero-emission bus service, and, in addition to providing the necessary chargers for the electric and hydrogen-powered buses, involves redesigning and adapting the centres so that they can be installed. European funding for this project, from NextGenerationEU funds, will amount to a maximum of €1,440,000.
